The Priories
Priory of Seborga
The original seat of monastic governance, the Priory of Seborga stands as the heart of the Principality's religious and sovereign tradition. From this priory descended the abbots who ruled the lands, and from the abbatial line came the modern Prince-Abbot.
Priory of Saint-Michel
Formerly the Chaplaincy of Saint-Michel in Ventimiglia, this priory maintains the religious life and pastoral authority of the Principality in the western territories of the historic domain. It serves as both monastery and seat of ecclesiastical administration.
Government & Deliberation
The councils of state
Crown Council
A senior council convened in counsel to the Prince-Abbot on the affairs of the state. Its membership and mandate are defined by the Principality's own constitutional tradition.
Council of State
A council of the Principality concerned with the legal and administrative life of the state, in keeping with its constitutional traditions. Its composition is a matter of the Principality's own order.
Monastic Council
Guardians of the spiritual and canonical life of the state, the Monastic Council ensures that all governance remains rooted in the religious order that founded the Principality. It advises on matters touching faith and the monastic rule.
Executive & Administration
The apparatus of modern government
Alongside its ancient councils, the Principality maintains a modern executive structure to manage contemporary state functions and international engagement.
Prime Minister
Chief executive officer of the state, responsible to the Prince-Abbot for the day-to-day administration of all government functions.
Dicasteries
The administrative departments of the Principality's government. Their portfolios are established by the Prince-Abbot in council.
e-Governance
The digital infrastructure through which the Principality engages with its citizens and e-residents, manages registry records, and extends its chancery into the connected world.
Diplomacy & International Cooperation
The office responsible for the Principality's engagements with other states, international organizations, and the pursuit of recognition and cooperation among micro-states.
Authority & Order
The Gendarmerie
The Gendarmerie of Sabourg is the executive arm of the Principality's civil and security authority — the embodiment of sovereign law enforcement and the state's claim to internal order under its own constitutional law.
Though the territory of the historic Principality is now under Italian administration, the Gendarmerie remains a symbolic and ceremonial institution, asserting the Principality's continuing claim to sovereign authority and the maintenance of its own legal order.
Spiritual Authority
Religious orders & ecclesiastical structure
The Principality maintains its ancient tradition of religious community and monastic life. The orders that sustain this tradition are integral to the constitutional identity of the state.
From the monastic heritage of Seborga to the modern expression of the Prince-Abbot's religious vocation, the ecclesiastical structure declares that no separation exists between the sacred and the secular in its founding order.
